Notes:

John Owens, 1790-1846, joined his father's hat making business in 1815 which developed into other areas, eg umbrellas and cotton goods. From c1820 these were almost entirely exported, especially to North America. 1825 took a substantial interest in a cotton mill operated as Owens & Faulkner. By 1840s refocused business interests on commodity and securities speculation and money lending
