Established in 1858 in central Glasgow by Christopher A Bayne, d1881, Edinburgh shoe maker and retailer, as a sleeping partner, and William Duckett, d1888, formerly a Northamptonshire boot maker, as a footwear retailing and wholesaling business. Increasingly led by George William Duckett from the 1880s who substantially increased the wholesale trade. Had c35 shops in Scotland and England by mid 1930s. Incorporated 1917 and converted to a public company c1936. Still operating 1958 [2024]
