Dealt in dyestuffs, tanning materials, copperas, alum, gum, soap, etc. By 1730s known as Nightingale, Scott & Co. 1760 partnership dissolved when Nightingale family continued alone, increasingly under leadership of Miles who developed a significant business from 1760s. Damaged by market ramp in Senegal gum 1772. A notable feature was the extent of its international trade in buying and selling, the commodities dealt in often not touching British shores
