Traced origins to Achille Serre, a Parisian silk cleaner and ribbon dyer, who established a garment dyeing business in Hackney, London, in c1870. Subsequently a pioneer in introducing dry cleaning into the UK. Developed a central factory in Hackney, relocating to a very large factory in Walthamstow in late 1920s, and a 400 strong chain of dry cleaning shops. Incorporated 1906. In receivership 1939-43 when reconstructed. 1968 acquired by property company, Great Portland Estates Ltd, and in late 1960s most of assets sold to Sketchley. Closed c1970s
