Traced origins to the late 18th century when established in Covent Garden. Made a wide range of machinery but became noted for its fire fighting equipment. Mosses Merryweather, 1791-1872, developed the business by introducing by 1830s horse drawn steam fire engines with massively improved capacity which were widely adopted. Also made steam trams. 1862 moved to Lambeth and in 1876 to Greenwich. Incorporated as Merryweather & Son Ltd in 1892. In 20th century leading manufacturers of motorised fire engines, etc. Post 1945 moved to Ebbw Vale and subsequently acquired by Siebe Gorman
