Developed out of the old established farming business of the Maunder family. Under Frederick J P Maunder, 1838-1919, from 1879 started slaughtering own livestock and by 1890s developed retail and wholesale meat selling interests. Family led formation in 1893 Witheridge & District Dairy Co Ltd to make butter and acquired it c1901. Under Lloyd Maunder, 1873-1961, developed into poultry and egg production, livestock slaughtering, meat retailing and wholesaling with a slaughter house and a chain of butchers shops in the South West and as an early supplier to businesses such as J Sainsbury Ltd. c2008 acquired by 2 Sisters Food Group.
