In 1845 the brothers Charles B and Samuel S, b1822, established Mander Brothers which was incorporated in 1923. Started to make paints in 1865 and printing inks in 1882. Led by Theodore Mander, 1853-1900, from c1880 and later by Sir Charles Mander. Noted for a forward looking employee welfare policy. Restructured under Mander Holdings Ltd in 1937 when separate varnish, paint, printing ink and property divisions established. In mid 20th century redeveloped Wolverhampton factory site as a shopping centre. As Manders Plc in 1990s focused on printing ink manufacture and distribution. Ink business subsequently sold to Flint Ink of USA. Wightwick Manor was family country home of Mander family, notably of Theodore Mander and Sir Christopher Mander
