Diversified into sugar broking and by 1820s was a market leader in London. By 1869 his two grandsons had joined the business and were sole partners leading to its renaming as E D & F Man. Expanded its brokerage to other commodities such as tea and coffee and in 20th century gradually developed broader activities associated with commodities, such as hedging. 1965 acquired Paines & Reid, commodity brokers. 1994 floated on London Stock Exchange. Subsequently reorganised when divided into two independent businesses, Man Group Plc, financial service providers, and E D & F Man, commodity brokers. 2023 continuing as Man Group Plc, a leading international investment management business [2023]
