Barclays' interests in Brighton date largely to the Brighton Union Bank established in 1805 by William Golding, James Browne, Nathaniel Hall, Richard Lashmar and Thomas West. Opened several branches. 1894 acquired by Barclay, Bevan, Tritton, Ransom, Bouverie & Co of London when known as Hall, Bevan, West & Bevans. In 1896 Barclay, Bevan joined other leading private banks in the creation of Barclays & Co Ltd
