Established by John Lysaght, 1832-95, who in 1858 acquired a zinc galvanising plant in Bristol. Expanded rapidly and incorporated in 1880 as John Lysaght Ltd. Established, inter alia, a structural metalwork plant at Bristol in 1876 and, in late 1890s, a sheet metal works at Newport, known as Orb Works. Subsequently established a steel producing business at Scunthorpe to supply Orb Works. Acquired 1920 by Guest Keen & Nettlefolds Ltd. Orb Works subsequently owned by British Steel Corp and focused on electrical steels under Orb Electrical Steels Ltd
