(Sir) Oswald Stoll, 1866-1942, emerged as a leading owner of music halls and variety theatres throughout Britain, often commissioning the leading theatre architect, Frank Matcham. 1899 merged many of his theatres into Moss Empires Ltd of which he was managing director, but continued to own and manage other venues. In 1904 he commissioned Markham to build the London Colesium, London's largest theatre, incorporating London Coliseum Ltd for the purpose. This business failed in 1906 when its assets were bought by Colesium Syndicate Ltd in which Stoll was interested. 1950s Stoll theatre interests merged with Moss Empire Ltd to form Stoll Moss Theatres Ltd
