Traced origins to Robert Lewis who established himself as a spice, later drug, broker in 1775. Business carried on by his son, Arthur, in Jepson & Lewis from 1804 and as Arthur Lewis from 1817. 1846 known as Lewis & Peat. Major London broking business by 1900 when started to focus on rubber broking. 1919 incorporated and floated. Early 1950s acquired by Kay Finance Co Ltd, owned by Harry Kissin, who revitalised and diversified the business which subsequently was carried on as Guinness Peat Group
