In due course the business there became Drake, Kleinwort & Cohen. 1855 relocated to London to become senior partner and in 1883 business renamed Kleinwort Sons & Co. Between wars emerged as a merchant bank providing trade finance and issuing securities. 1961 merged with Robert Benson Lonsdale Ltd to form Kleinwort Benson Ltd, a leading City merchant bank. 1966 acquired the bullion dealers, Sharps Pixley. Broadened activities from 1980s in response to Big Bang including acquisition of the brokers Grieveson Grant. 1995 acquired by Dresdner Bank [2023]
