Established 1838 by George Kent, b1806, in central London. From 1844 made knife cleaning machines and other labour saving devices and from c1868 ventilated refrigerators. From early 1880s began to specialise in manufacture of water meters and subsequently developed meters and other measurement control equipment for wide range of functions including air, gas and steam. 1907 incorporated. 1908 developed major works at Luton. 1965 acquired Evershed & Vignoles Ltd and in 1968 Cambridge Instrument Co Ltd. 1974 acquired by Brown Boveri & Co and later known as Brown Boveri Kent Ltd
