Established by John Jeyes, 1817-1892, who started out in business with James Atkins as a seedsman and florist. By 1845 known as Jeyes & Co. Subsequently he had other business interests including Jeyesine Oil & Paint Co Ltd, Plaistow, London, 1871-73. 1877 patented the disinfectant Jeyes Fluid and in 1879 established Jeyes' Sanitary Compounds Co Ltd, at Plaistow. Reorganised 1885. Subsequently manufactured other sanitary products such as toilet tissue. Developed innovative marketing techniques to become a household name. Royal warrant holders 1896. Post 1945 grew by acquisition of other brands such as those of Ibbetson Group of Barking in 1955, Parazone, Brobat, etc. 1964 renamed Jeyes Group Ltd. 1970 relocated all operations to Thetford. 1972 acquired by Cadbury Schweppes
