Traced origins to 1826 when established as Jewsbury & Whitlow, duggists, perfumerers and makers of soda water and ginger beer. 1845 joined by W Scott Brown, 1819-91, who in due course became sole owner. Diversified into manufacture of mineral water. Business expanded rapidly as a soft drinks concern aided by its improvements to bottle design. 1890s built large factory at Ardwick Green and by 1926 had eight branches in northern England and Wales. Incorporated 1923. 1964 acquired by Schweppes
