Formed in 1904 by merger of three leading sea chart publishers in the face of declining demand as a result of Admiralty published charts. The merger was of Norrie & Wilson, which promoted it, James Imray & Son Ltd and R H Laurie. Norrie traced its origins 1793 when established by William Heather. Latterly it also had other interests such as marine book publishing, trade in nautical instruments and yacht fittings/furnishings, and a retail shop. R H Laurie dated its origins to 1707 when print sellers. Imray was founded in c1781 by John Hamilton Moore. Subsequent to merger focused on book publishing and charts, etc, for yachting. Continues
