Notes:

Traces origins to 1859 when established at Lochrin Ironworks, Edinburgh, by William Bain. Manufactured iron fencing and gates for Scottish estates and from late 1870s made wire fencing. Soon did major export trade, especially to Australia. 1888 relocated to Coatbridge. Incorporated 1908. Subsequently diversified into making concrete and joinery components for buildings and construction of buildings using predominantly metal, concrete and timber structures. By 1920s making pylons for electricity transmission. Continues as William Bain Fencing Ltd
