Traced origins to 1881 when established by Frederick Hopper, d1926, at Barton upon Humber to make and repair bicycles. 1896 acquired by Cycle Industries Corp Ltd when renamed ABC Cycle Fittings Ltd. Thereafter Hopper re-established himself in business as Hull & Barton Cycle Manufacturing Co Ltd which he floated in 1897. Reconstructed 1898 when he reacquired his original business, which was then in difficulties, and established the partnership of F Hopper & Co. Incorporated as F Hopper & Co Ltd in 1907. 1910 merged with Elswick Cycle & Motor Manufacturing Co Ltd of Newcastle upon Tyne to form in 1913 Elswick Hopper Cycle & Motor Co Ltd. Briefly made motorcycles and motor cars. 1974 acquired Wearwell Cycles. 1982 merged with Falcon Cycles which had its roots in Coventry Eagle Cycles. Business subsequently renamed Elswick Falcon Cycles Ltd and later Falcon Cycles Ltd. Continues as a bicycle manufacturer owned by Tandem Plc
