Traced origins to 1847 when slate quarry established by John Pughe. Subsequently operated by Aberdovey Slate Co Ltd, formed by William and James McConnell, Manchester textile mill owners, who built the Tal y Llyn [Talyllyn] Railway to serve it. 1911 quarry acquired, along with associated railway and village, by (Sir) Henry Haydn Jones who formed Abergynolwyn Slate & Slab Co Ltd. In decline after 1918 and closed by 1947. ?Subsequently acquired by Aberllefenni Slate Quarries Ltd
