Incorporated 1888 as Hodbarrow Mining Co Ltd, controlled by Barratt and Caine families. Supplied, inter alia, the local Cumberland Iron Mining & Smelting Co Ltd. Nationalised 1951 and privatised 1958 when sold to Millom Hematite Iron & Ore Co Ltd. Wound up 1959. Mine closed 1968
