Traces origins to 1815 when William Russell, d1835, of Clerkenwell, London, was established to make soda water making machinery, water closets and hydraulic presses. 1835 acquired by Mr Hayward-Tyler, d1855. Early on also made pumping machinery and electric lighting machinery and installation. 1855 acquired by Robert L Howard. Early 1870s started relocation to a new works at Luton. 1905 incorporated. From c1914 focused on manufacture of submersible pumps and motors, later high pressure pumps. Subsequently part of Stone Platt Group as Stone Platt Pumps. Continues
