Traced origins to 1881 when established by Alfred Hawkins and Charles Tipson as ropemakers at Globe Rope Works, Millwall. 1919 converted to a public company. Expanded by acquisitions which included Green Brothers and Burfield & Son, both of Hailsham, in 1941 and 1953 respectively. Established major works at Hailsham and closed London works in 1971. 1957 started to make synthetic fibre ropes at Hailsham, and this became major activity. By early 1980s had been acquired by another business and subsequently were renamed H & T Marlow and, later, Marlow Ropes Ltd
