Notes:

Traced origins to John Harper who joined Tildesleys of Willenhall, ironfounders, in 1840 as a clerk. In 1844 appointed manager and soon after a partner in what soon became John Harper Jnr & Co, Albion Works, makers of lock cases from malleable cast iron. 1850s merged with James Tildesley, lockmaker, James Lockett, screwmaker, John Fox, lockmaker, and Thomas Bruerton, baglockmaker when made locks, padlocks, keys, bolts, etc. 1860s and 70s faced financial difficulties and litigation. Incorporated 1888 as John Harper & Co Ltd. By 1910 making locks, bolts, 'light and fancy castings', lamp fittings, oil stoves, bicycles, etc. Public company 1930. Subsequently made locks, bolts, heaters and foundry castings for a wide range of functions.1974 acquired by Duport and later operated as Duport Harper
