Acquired in 1918 by Stainsbys as John Harker Ltd. In 1920s Harkers acquired shipbuilding yard of Worfolk & Galick to build canal craft. Established Gloucester Shipyard Ltd, with Severn & Canal Carrying Co Ltd, in 1939 and Sharpness Shipyard in 1946. Emerged as major canal carriers and canal craft builders. Shipbuilding ceased in 1979
