Traced origins to 1747 when established by Samuel Hanson as a dried fruits merchant at Botolph Lane, City of London. Succeeded by his son, who broadened the product range, and became known as Samuel Hanson & Son. 1856 acquired Batger & Co followed in 1871 by Jones Evison & Co, wholesale grocers, when renamed Samuel Hanson Son Evison & Barter, dealers in fruit, tea, coffee, spice and wine. Reverted to Samuel Hanson & Son in 1889. Processed tea and coffee and in 1934 started fruit canning. Incorporated 1932 and converted to a public company 1935
