Traces origins to Amalgamated Roadstone Corp Ltd formed in 1934 through merger of four large Cornish quarrying businesses. 1946 merged with British Quarrying Co Ltd and in 1967 with Roads Reconstruction Ltd. c1968 acquired by Consolidated Gold Fields Ltd as the basis of a new UK based division. 1972 the latter acquired Amey Group to form Amey Roadstone Corp. 1986 renamed ARC Ltd. Subsequently acquired by Hanson Trust through its 1989 acquisition of Consolidated Gold Fields. Continues as Hanson Aggregates, a leading international aggregates and cement business by 2012 owned by Heidelberg Cement
