Commenced operations in 1822 at Leith having been established by James Wyld, John Anderson and Forrest Alexander, local shipowners and merchants, to develop regular shipping services between Leith and Australia in an attempt to compete with rapidly expanding UK ports such as Glasgow and Liverpool. Of large size and first joint stock shipping enterprise to trade between Britain and Australia. Carried both goods and passengers, especially emigrants from UK. Proposed also to establish trading and lending interests in Australia in due course. Collapsed in 1830 due to failures by agents in Australia [2023]
