Notes:

Traced origins to Nathaniel Greening, 1780-1852, who became a copper wire drawer at Warrington in 1799. By 1807 traded as Nathaniel Greening & Co and in 1838 as Rylands & Greening when John Rylands was a partner. The latter left in 1843 to form what came to be known as Rylands Brothers Ltd. Renamed 1843 N Greening & Sons. By mid century wire drawers (in iron, brass and copper) and manufacturers of wire products such as wire cloth, sieves, riddles, brushes, flour sifting machines, etc. Incorporated 1883. 1890s diversified into metal perforation. 1912 acquired a London business at Hayes. Post 1945 made numerous acquisitions including F & G W Stonier & Co Ltd, makers of wire products for paper industry, Sankey Green Wire Weaving Co Ltd, Finch & Godwin of Bristol, Pall Ulster Ltd, etc. Still operating 1970s
