By his death had 20 film theatres which then came under management of Sidney Bernstein, later Lord Bernstein, 1899-1993. Early 1950s established Granada Television Ltd to operated the independent television contract for Manchester-Liverpool region. 1960s diversified into television rental, motorway service stations, bingo, publishing, etc. From 1980s emerged as a major UK media and catering business, as Granada Media Plc merging with Carlton Communications Plc in 2003 to form ITV Plc.
