Traced origins to Kennedy Patent Water Meter Syndicate formed by Thomas Kennedy, b1797, the patentee, and others in 1852 to acquire the patent rights of a water meter and finance its manufacture and commercial development. make and market a water meter patented by Thomas Kennedy. Reorganised 1863 when assets transferred to Kennedy's Patent Water Meter Co Ltd. 1865 the Glenfield Co Ltd was formed, controlled by shareholders of the Meter Co, initially to make castings, etc, for it. 1899 the two businesses merged to form Glenfield & Kennedy Ltd. By end of 19th century leading manufacturers of hydraulic equipment for waterworks and water supply including meters, sluice valves, pumps, pumping engines, sluices, control gates, etc. 2001 in receivership when acquired by AVK Group and continues as Glenfield Valves Ltd
