Notes:

Traced origins to Plant & Hancock, agricultural equipment manufacturers. Edwin Foden became a partner c1860s and in 1887 known as Edwin Foden Sons & Co Ltd. By 1880s made industrial and agricultural steam engines and in 1882 built first steam traction vehicle. Made first steam lorry in 1900 and began switch to diesel in c1930. Post 1945 also made buses until early 1980s. 1948 started to make diesel engines in-house. Made first large capacity tipper lorry 1946. In receivership 1980 and acquired by Paccar of USA in 1982 after which held by Sandbach Engineering Co Ltd but continued to use Foden brand. See also E R Foden Ltd
