Traced origins to 1917 as a joint venture of Easton Lift Co Ltd and GEC Ltd. The former was established in 1822 and made hydraulic equipment and, later, electrically operated lifts. 1930 merged with Smith, Major & Stevens, established 1770, which by 1878 were leading manufacturers of hand powered/hydraulic lifts and rope stranding machines with works at Battersea and, later, Northampton. The latter works now became centre of operations. The new company was the largest UK owned lift manufacturer/installer. Entirely owned by GEC from 1935. Installed lifts in NatWest Tower, opened early 1980s. c1985 acquired from GEC by Otis Plc
