Traced origins to Douglas Engineering Co established at Bristol in 1882 by William and Edward Douglas. Sometime known as Douglas (Kingswood) Ltd. From 1907 made motorcycles, having acquired certain assets of Light Motors Ltd, and by 1914-18 a major manufacturer. Also royal warrant holders. 1935 acquired by Bond Aircraft & Engineering Co Ltd and ceased to make motorcycles in 1950s. Sometime also made industrial trucks, electric road vehicles, aircraft engines, etc. 1957 acquired by Westinghouse Brake & Signal Co Ltd
