Traces origins to 1869 when established by William H Dorman. It then manufactured footwear making machinery. By 1903 petrol and paraffin car engines were manufactured followed by diesel engines in 1929. Sometime traded as W H Dorman & Co Ltd. c1961 acquired by English Electric Ltd and subsequently known as Dorman Diesels Ltd. Subsequently acquired by GEC Ltd. 1994 acquired by Perkins Engines Co Ltd when known as Perkins Engines (Stafford) Ltd. Continues in 2008 especially as builders of marine engines for small craft
