Early on perfected the papermaking machines of the Fourdrinier brothers and manufactured them at Bermondsey. Also involved in other products as inventor and manufacturer such as food canning machinery (becoming involved in food canning and its distribution), printing machinery, counting machines, tachometers for machinery, steel nib pens, etc. Succeeded in business by his sons from 1840s and subsequently with noted success by his grandson, also Bryan, 1835-1902. Incorporated 1889 as Bryan Donkin & Co Ltd. 1900 amalgamated with Clench & Co of Chesterfield to become Bryan Donkin & Clench and relocated there from Bermondsey. Papermaking machinery business declined after 1870s and in 20th century gradually focused on making valve regulators and compression plant. Subsequently known as Bryan Donkin Ltd. Mid 1990s offered for sale and disposed of by product area.
