Established 1830 as Davy Bros by David and Dennis Davy, mechanical engineers. Came to specialise in manufacturing iron and steel making plant, especially rolling mills from c1900, and forging equipment, especially presses. Incorporated 1872. 1937 merged with United Engineering of Pittsburgh to form Davy & United Engineering Co Ltd. 1939 acquired Duncan Stewart & Co Ltd, Glasgow based sugar machinery manufacturers.1960 acquired Power Gas Corp Ltd, established 1901, which included Ashmore Benson Pease Ltd, PS Engineering Ltd and Rose, Down & Thompson Ltd, marking important diversification into contract engineering for oil, chemical and food processing industries. Then renamed Davy Ashmore Group Ltd. 1973 renamed Davy International Ltd and, later, Davy Corp Ltd. 1992 acquired by Trafalgar House Plc which in 1996 was acquired by Kvaerner of Norway. Subsequently merged with Markham & Co Ltd to form Davy Markham
