Anthony Daffy, with his relative, Rev Thomas Daffy, d1680, of Rutland, developed a patent medicine from mid 17th century known as Elixir Salutis. Following death of Thomas, Anthony successfully promoted medicine using advertising so that it emerged as a well known brand. Continued to be sold by his widow and her relatives in early 18th century. Subsequently other owners, eg William & Cluer Dicey & Co of London and later W Sutton & Co also of London and later Enfield, in later 18th century, the latter still being in existence in 1950s
