Traced origins to c1794 when John Hicks acquired the business of Francis Etheridge, manufacturer of worsted hose, draper, haberdasher, undertaker, grocer, etc. From 1826 known as Hicks & Son and from 1844 as Cox & Hicks. Early on made stockings and gloves. Latterly focused as drapers and outfitters. Closed c1989
