Notes:
Traced origins to 1912 as a tramp shipping business. After 1945 focused on bulkship and tanker operations. Diversified from shipping substantially in 1960s, most notably building through acquisition an air transport and package holiday business, flying holiday makers typically to Spanish resorts at very low prices. Its chief acquisition, made in 1965, was Autair International Ltd, renamed from Autair (Luton) Ltd in 1963 and established in 1957 as Argus Air Transport. This was a small airline that provided a mix of scheduled and charter flights, covering both passengers and freight. It was expanded as Court Line Aviation to focus on package holiday flights. Became closely linked to tour operators Clarksons Travel Group and Horizon Holdings Ltd and in early 1970s acquired both of them. Also built substantial shipbuilding interests through acquisition in 1964 of Appledore Shipbuilders Ltd and in 1973 of Doxford & Sunderland Ltd which was renamed Sunderland Shipbuilders Ltd. Collapsed 1974
