Established 1888 by Alfred Harmsworth, later Lord Northcliffe, 1865-1922, and his brother Harold, later Lord Rothermere, as Amalgamated Press Ltd to publish the popular periodical 'Answers to Correspondents'. By 1890s were publishing and printing a wide range of popular magazines and were reckoned to be the world leader in magazine publishing. Opened Fleetwood House 1912. Built major printing works in East London and at Gravesend and established paper making plant at Imperial Paper Mills, Gravesend. Also established Anglo Newfoundland Development Co to produce newsprint. 1959 renamed Fleetwood Publications and subsequently acquired George Newnes and Odhams Press Ltd as International Printing Corp Ltd
