Traced origins to Benjamin Cogswell, in business from 1770, who in 1840s established a gun and pistol warehouse in Strand in succession to Edward Benton. By 1857 also a pistol and gunmaker and by 1863 known as Cogswell & Harrison. Also operated retail premises in London, sometime at New Bond St and Piccadilly. Incorporated 1882. By 1900 had a shooting school. Around 1900 established a powder factory and made cartridges, in this being associated with Schultze Gunpowder Co Ltd until c1915. 1908 acquired William Moore & Grey. 1957 acquired by Sam Cummings. 1982 closed when name and goodwill sold to Farlows of Pall Mall. Continuing in 2016
