Traced origins to James Cocks, 1766-1827, who from 1789 developed a food processing and retailing business in Reading notable for its fish and other sauces and the luxury foods it retailed. Known as J & C Cocks from 1836 and later as Charles Cocks & Co. Incorporated as Charles Cocks & Co Ltd in 1901. Progressively widened range of its manufactured products but in decline in 20th century. Sometime used Crosse & Blackwell as selling agents. In 1950s subcontractor to Frank Cooper Ltd. Closed c1962
