John Clay, 1713-75, was apprenticed to a Daventry bookseller and stationer from 1729 and succeeded to his master's business in 1742. Established branches at Lutterworth, Leicestershire, and Rugby, Warwickshire. Dealt in paper and paper forms and associated equipment such as writing equipment. His son, Samuel, established, inter alia, a book shop and circulating library at Warwick
