Traces origins to 1931 and creation of Cambridge Aircraft Construction Co at Cambridge by Cambridge don, Norman de Bruyne. In 1934 renamed Aero Research Ltd, an R & D consultancy and moved to Duxford. Made resins for adhesives for use in aircraft construction and sold as Aerolite. Developed rapidly in wartime and 1947 acquired by CIBA of Switzerland, later CIBA GEIGY. 1958 renamed CIBA (ARL) Ltd. Duxford site subsequently developed as a leading plant for resin manufacture for adhesives and surface coatings. 1970 CIBA merged with J R Geigy SA and their UK subsidiaries, CIBA (UK) Ltd and Geigy (UK) Ltd, merged to form CIBA GEIGY (UK) Ltd
