Notes:

Chipperfield family links with performing animals and animal training date to 17th century. Their modern circus had its roots with James Chipperfield, 1824-1913, who was noted for his menagerie and who wintered at Norwich. Circus passed to successive generations. 1902 introduced bioscope. 1933 merged with circus interests of Purchase family. By 1940s one of UK's top circuses. Ceased touring late 1980s. James (Jimmy) Chipperfield, 1912-90, broke way to form his own safari park, etc, business
