Samuel Taylor, 1681-1766, was a yeoman with significant industrial interests at Moston, near Manchester. He sometime had a mill for grinding logwood for making dyes and others for making linen thread. His grandson was to convert the business into a manufacturer of cotton goods and made 'a considerable fortune'. In 1722-23 Taylor successfully applied for a patent for his 'new engine for the stamping and dressing of thread'
