John Henry Chamberlain, 1831-83, was in practice in Birmingham as a architect from the 1850s, early on as a partner of William Harris, latterly by himself. Emerged as a leading Birmingham architect much involved in the city's civic programme of the late 19th century which involved him in municipal buildings, schools, etc. Also designed houses for Birmingham's emerging elite such as Joseph Chamberlain (no relative)
