Traced origins to 1760 when formed by William Camden, 173--96, Anthony Calvert, c1735-1809, and Thomas King, c1735-1824, as merchants trading especially to the West Indies Also were major London shipowners and acted as contractors to the Victualling Board on a local and international scale. Developed a wide range of other London interests including sugar refining, brewing, whaling, convict transportation and, later, insurance and finance.
