Charles Dingley, 1711-69, with his brother, Robert, 1710-81, were Russian merchants from c1730s with Charles based in St Petersburg. Imported into UK timber, hemp, flax, sailcloth, silks, potash, iron, etc, and exported to Russia metals, woollen cloth, bullion, etc. 1746 Charles returned to London where focused on timber importing. By 1760s trading as Dingley & Gomm. 1760s set up a very large timber yard at Limehouse and in 1766-67 built a wind powered saw mill [cost £4,500] - referred to as Limehouse Saw Mill - with encouragement of Royal Society of Arts who subsequently awarded him a prize. Left his businesses to his son in law, John Smith Meggott. By 1795 mill out of use for many years
